Family Africa volunteer dies in Kampala bombings - Condolence note |
| |
|
| |
It is with regret that we inform you that one of our volunteers, Marie Smith, died in one of the terrorist explosions in Kampala, Uganda, on Sunday night.
Marie, Irish citizen and mother of three sons, died as she had lived, in the continent she loved surrounded by the people she loved. She was widowed in the 1980s and since that time had come to Africa and dedicated her life to the service of God and others.
No one who met her could fail to be moved by her zeal and simple love of Jesus. She had recently moved to Uganda from South Africa where she was working with Family Care, Uganda, part of The Family Africa. Fluent in Zulu, Tswana and Swahili, she had truly become one with the people of Africa and it was her oft expressed wish that she be buried in Soweto, South Africa.
Our prayers are with her family and for an end to the violence and strife which scars this beautiful continent. |
