Climate Change, Between Trust and Trade

The United Nations University Office at the UN, New York is organizing a discussion as a part of the Current Affairs Series entitled Climate Change, Between trust and Trade. Reversing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of the world's $60 trillion economy will be among the most complex international governance challenges ever. William J. Antholis, Managing Director of Brookings Institution, will be at the UN Headquarters where he will address the issue of governing a global climate regime from the two perspectives. Firstly, by examining the importance of building and maintaining trust between nations. Secondly, by drawing on lessons learned from the experience of the global trading regime.

World Rankings of Think Tanks

The United Nations University Office at the UN, New York is organizing a discussion as a part of the Current Affairs Series entitled World Rankings of Think-TanksDr. James G. McGann, Director of Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program and assistant director of the International Relations Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. McGann is also a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.As Professor McGann notes in an article written for Foreign Policy, think tanks, also called governments in waiting, are needed by leaders around the world to provide independent analysis, help set policy agendas, and bridge the gap between academia and policy-making. Professor McGann will discuss his recent work on a comprehensive ranking of the world's top think tanks, which serves as an insider's guide to the more 6500 think tanks around the globe. Dr. McGann is currently working on a book on Global Think Tanks, Policy Networks and Governance due out later this year (Routledge, Global Institutions Serie with s).

The discussion will address threats to development arising from the global economic crisis, food shortages and climate change. |
