Observance of the 2009 International Day of Older Persons focuses on mobilizing the oft unrecognized dynamism, intellect and power of older persons to maximize their participation in society and to improve the quality of life for themselves and for all generations. The event will present KEYNOTE SPEAKERS and REPRESENTATIVES from the World’s five regions providing global, regional and local perspectives.

ABOUT DR. ALEXANDRE SIDORENKO

Dr. Alexandre Sidorenko, one of the world’s leading authorities on population ageing, is nearing retirement from his position as the United Nations Focal Point on Ageing. He served as Coordinator for the International Year of Older Persons and has been a central figure in virtually every landmark ageing agreement, including the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing and the UN Principles for Older Persons. On this 19th Annual Commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons, we take this opportunity to honor Dr. Sidorenko for being a leading advocate to create a world in which everyone can age with dignity and purpose.
