Excellency Mrs. Štefka Kucan
Former First Lady of the Republic of Slovenia

Mrs. Štefanija (Štefka) Kucan
was born in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia. She graduated from the Secondary
School of Economy in Celje and studied literature at the Faculty
of Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana. Mrs. Štefka
Kucan worked in the Institute of International Scientific, Technical
and Cultural Co-operation of the Government and in the Administration
of the Parliament of the Republic of Slovenia. Mrs. Kucan retired
in 1995.
In 1964 she married Mr. Milan Kucan. They have two daughters.
Their elder daughter Ana took her Master’s degree in landscape
architecture at Harvard in 1992, and her PhD at the University
of Ljubljana in 1996. The younger daughter Špela has taken
a degree of ethnology, the Spanish language and hispanic literature
at the University of Ljubljana.
Knowledge of foreign languages: English and French.
Fields
of interest: social and humanitarian activities, education, arts
and culture, ethnographic and ecological sciences.
