The World Family Summit +1

Date: 03 to 08 December 2005

Summit Venue: All Summit Sessions will be held at the Hotel Parque dos Coqueiros - Convention & Resort.

Official Opening Ceremony: was held at the Tobias Barreto Theather on December 3rd at 20:00hrs followed by a Cultural Event and Cocktail.

Field Visits

Success Stories: on December 4th during the Success Stories Session the Government of Sergipe prepared a practical presentation of the Program Pro-Women... Pro-Family, More Health... More Life... Participants will take part of a field execution of this program in Aracaju city neighborhood. Transportation will be provided .

Technical visit: on December 7th at 09:00, delegations will participate of a technical visit to a project on “Eradication of mud houses” in Aracaju city neighborhood.Transportation will be provided.

Technical visit: on December 7th at 11:00, delegations will participate of a technical visit to the Atalaia Art and Culture Center. Transportation will be provided.


Social Program

Inauguration of a Monument: on December 4th at 19:00, in honor of Inacio Barbosa. Lawyer, born in Rio de Janeiro em 1823, Inacio Barbosa was nominated President of Sergipe Province in 1853 by the Brazilian Emperor D. Pedro II. In 1855 transferred the Capital of Sergipe Province from Sao Cristovao to Aracaju.

Nations’ Woods: on December 4th at 20:00 in honor of the World Family Summit +1, delegations will participate in a Tree Planting Ceremony on the Atalaia Seashore. Each delegation will plant a tree which will be identified with the name of the country and delegation.

Official Dinner: on December 4th at 21:00, the Governor of Sergipe, by invitation, will offer a dinner at the Summer Palace.

Official Dinner: on December 5th at 21:00, the World Family Organization, by invitation, will offer a dinner at a typical Brazilian northeast restaurant.

Official Dinner: on December 6th at 21:00, the UNDESA/NGO-Section/IRENE, by invitation, will offer a dinner at a typical Brazilian northeast restaurant.

Transportation will be provided to all events.


Working Languages: Simultaneous interpretation in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese will be provided. Official Documentation will be available in English. The other languages will be provided according to availability.

Registration: All Participans are expected to register and are exempted from registration fee.

Desk specially located at the Hotel Parque dos Coqueiros lobby.

Time for registration:
December 3 - 08:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00.
December 4 - 08:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00.

Visa Requirement: Please check that you have a valid passport for at least six months and if you need a visa to enter Brazil.

In case that you need a visa to enter Brazil please contact the Brazilian Embassy or Diplomatic Mission closest to you or visit the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations (Foreign Affairs) official website for more detailed information about addresses where you can obtain the brazilian visa.

Please allow adequate time for bureaucratic procedures, including documentation analisys. If your Country does not have a Brazilian Representation, and you need a visa to enter Brazil, kindly contact us.

Visas are not issued at the airport.

Travel Information: Participants can reach Aracaju through the two main International Airports: São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Most connecting flights in country have a stop in Salvador city (Bahia State), resuming their flight to Aracaju. Please check with your travel agent and book your flight as early as possible.

On Arrival: The Summit Secretariat will set up a Welcome Desk at the Aracaju Airport.

Transport airport-hotel: The Summit Secretariat will offer a courtesy transport from airport-hotel and from hotel-airport.

Reconfirmation of air ticket: The Summit Secretariat will provide a travel agent desk at the Summit venue.

Insurance: The participants are expected to have and shall be responsable for their own insurance to cover for expenses related to medical treatment while on travel or in Brazil when attending the Summit and the related events.

Languages: Portuguese is the official language. English and Spanish are relatively widely spoken.

Weather: In Brazil, the month of December is the end of the spring. Sergipe state is located in the northeast of the country where the weather is always warm, dry and sunny. Average daytime temperatures are around 27ºC. Aracaju is located at seaside, with beautiful beaches.

Time Zone: Brazil standart time is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Money: The currency in Brazil is "Real". The rate of exchange in November is US$ 1,00 = R$ 2,20. Please check frequently for the actual exchange rate. Both traveller checks and cash are easy to change. Most of credit cards are accepted.

Electric Voltage: 110 V

The Hotel Parque dos Coqueiros is a resort located in Aracaju City, strategically located: 3 km away from the Airport, 10 minutes from downtown and right by the beach.
