World Family Summit

It is my privilege to congratulate you and your organization- World Family Organization on your momentous initiative to organize a “World Family Summit” as a “Follow-up to the International year of the Family” (IYF) and the observance of its Tenth Anniversary in 2004 to be hosted by the Chinese government in Sanya, Province of Hainan, China from 6 to 9 December 2004.

Your organization-WFO has been the vanguard in understanding and promoting the role of the ‘Family’- the most fundamental unit of social cohesion and coexistence, to bring about peace, security, justice, tolerance, solidarity, and prosperity to the humanity as a whole.

We firmly believe that the achievement of truly sustainable peace and prosperity cannot be the work of governments alone: it requires an important input for the civil society. World Family Summit would help in rekindling the spirit of the United Nations General Assembly resolution 44/85 of 1994 by reaffirming the importance of the family structure in the well being of its members and society at large and would further promote the implementation of the internationally acknowledged Millennium Development Goals through the Family as the social, economical, political and sustainable unit of the society.

We, at the NGO section of the United Nations, are always more than willing to work in partnership with the organizations as yours and support such outstanding efforts. We also note with pleasure that the theme of the World Family Summit not only falls well in line with the MDGs but also, by highlighting the importance of family, draws attention towards a new way of approaching and accomplishing these goals.

Once again, I salute your organization for taking initiative to organize “World Family Summit” and all the participants who will commit themselves in this noble effort.
