The opening!

Today we had the opening of the World Family Summit that it’s happening in Sanya (China). The minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission of China, Weiqing Zhang, welcomed all the participants. He said that China is glad to host this Summit because family is the basis of all human development.

36 children, that represent the 36 different nationalities that exist in China, offered flowers to the authorities present. The minister said that these children symbolize all Chinese’s families. “The children represent the happiness and hope inside the families”, said Zhang.

Xiulian Gu, Vice-Chairperson of The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China and President of The All-China Women’s Federation, also spoke at the opening ceremony.

Dr. Deisi Noeli Weber Kusztra, President of World Family Organization stated that this summit in China represents the realization of a dream that began in 2001, when the General Assembly of the World Family Organization decided to discuss family issues in the context of Development. She affirmed that “we are the generation responsible for writing the history of the Third Millennium and it’s our duty to build a better world for the next generation placing family issues in definitive in the International Agenda”.

Dr. Najet Karaborni, Senior Interregional Adviser, Office of the United Nations Under Secretary General, UNDESA, read the message of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the Summit. She also congratulated WFO for the outstanding initiative of doing this Summit and thanked the Government of the People's Republic of China for hosting it.

   
 

During all day, people from several countries discussed and changed experiences about family issues. The governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Rosinha Garotinho, was also present. She spoke about family and sustainable development.

At the first day of the conference, there were four panels: Family and Poverty Eradication, Family and Education, Family and Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Family and Child Health, Youth and Elderly.

   


Welcome Reception by the host country

 
After the first day of the World Family Summit, all participants were invited to join a dinner offered by the government of China. The Chinese minister of National Population and Family Planning Commission, H. E. Mr. Weiqing Zhang, the president of the World Family Organization, Dr. Deisi Weber Noeli Kusztra and other authorities were present.
