Call for Papers

 

The World Family Summit +2 Program will be composed by seven Plenary Sessions. The first Plenary Session will be dedicated to introduce the theme of the WFS+2 in its global aspect. The last Plenary Session will be dedicated to wrap-up the work done in the three days with conclusions.

Seven Plenaries will be dedicated to the discussions linked to each specific MDG. Each one of these plenaries will be composed by two invited speakers and a paper presentation. The invited speakers will have 30 minutes to present the theme and the paper presentation will have 15 minutes. At the end of each plenary 30 minutes will be dedicated to discussions.

The paper presentations will be selected among participants wishing to present papers.

If you wish to present a paper, please observe the following instructions.


Submission of Abstracts

If you wish to contribute with a paper linked to theme of the Summit, please send an abstract of 300 - 350 words and a full paper to the Summit Secretary (info@worldfamilyorganization.org) who will forward it to the Scientific Commission for judgement. Abstracts of relevant standard and addressing one or more of the themes of the Summit will be included in the Summit's background documents and will be available at registration. From the total submited papers a substantial number will be selected to be presented by their authors.

Please include within the abstract the title of the proposed paper. This should be sent to the Summit Secretariat by email attachment, or, if submitted by post, should include a hard copy and a disk version. Please indicate if you wish your abstract to be considered by the Scientific Commission for a specific session of the Summit.

The deadline for abstracts and full papers is October 21. It is especially important that abstracts and full papers are received on time, in order to allow the Scientific Commission to inform you about the result of their judgment. Every effort will be made to inform authors quickly of the decision to include their paper in the Summit programme, to facilitate funding and travel arrangements.

Authors of full papers presented at the Summit will be asked if they would wish these to be considered for publication by the journals and magazines associated with the Summit.

Paper's Guidelines

The following guidelines have been developed to ensure optimum access to the content of your paper by the audience and to facilitate an effective working relationship between the presenters and the Summit organizers.

Please review the guidelines before writing your paper. Each paper must be submitted in accordance with the specifications and by the scheduled dates and must be accompanied by an abstract, author’s audio-visual requirements, speaker biography and a speaker registration form.

Registration:
All speakers are expected to register. You may fill in the attached form and return it to info@worldfamilyorganization.org or fax: (+55 41) 3254-5678. You may also register on the World Family Summit Website www.worldfamilyorganization.org/summit.

Important Deadlines:
October 21, 2006 Final date to send abstract and full paper presentation, audio/visual requirements and biography to the Summit Secretariat via e-mail at info@worldfamilyorganization.org. Earlier submission will be appreciated.

Novermber 10, 2006 Announcement of papers accepted for presentation.

Failure to comply with submitted dates may result in abstract's not acceptence.

Guidelines for Submission of Papers:
Candidates should forward papers in electronic form to Summit Secretariat via e-mail at
info@worldfamilyorganization.org. (single-spaced, A4 page size, 12 point font size, and in word format.)

A Summit paper consists of:
1. Title of the paper.
2. Name(s) of speaker(s), their Institution, city and country.
3. Abstract of approximately 300-350 words, summarizing the presentation.
4. Full text of the paper.
5. Maximum paper length- 15 pages (single-spaced A4).

Important Note:
Papers must be written in English language only. Presentations can be done in English, French, Arabic, Spanish and Portuguese since simultaneous translation will be available. Please avoid using unexplained acronyms, sets of initials, jargon and phrases which an international audience may not understand.

Paper/Presentation Outline:

Brief Outline:
1. Linkage of the paper/presentation with session theme.
2. Success and/or failure Case Studies (key learnings, issues to be addressed, solutions, main results/ outcomes).
3. Recommendations in reference to achieving relevant MDGs linked to the session theme.

Detail Outline:
• Candidates are invited to prepare and submit a paper that focuses on one or several aspects in the context of the relevant MDGs and the respective session theme.

• Candidates are expected to draw upon their own experience or the experience of their organisation in drafting these papers. These papers will serve as valuable inputs to the discussions of the Summit.

• The paper could present “lessons learnt”, opportunities and challenges in promoting the MDGs at the Local Level and in the Family and, if appropriate, highlight innovative ways of facilitating and creating an enabling environment in which Local Authorities and Families has been able to contribute in the achievement of a specific MDG.

• The abstracts/papers will be published by the Summit Secretariat as part of the Summit Proceedings. Therefore, to facilitate speedier publication of the proceedings, please ensure all papers are submitted in Word Format, size 12 Times New Roman font.

Guidelines for Presentations:

Prior to Presentation
• All speakers should submit a copy of their PowerPoint presentation on CD or via e-mail to the Summit Secretariat two weeks prior to the Summit. The Organizing Commettee will coordinate presentation loading to support speaker sequence. If you are bringing your own laptop, make sure you have an extra copy of the slides on stick-memory drive or CD in case of incompatibility of equipment at the WFS+2 venue.

During Presentation
Timing: Presentations are limited to 15 minutes. Please adhere to the presentation time limit for maintaining schedule and not encroaching on the next speaker’s time slot. Please note presentations are back to back; your assistance in keeping to your time slot is appreciated.

Pointers: At the start of your presentation, you are requested to ask delegates if they have difficulty hearing you or reading any material projected on the screen. If there are people present who cannot read the screen, ensure that you read all information projected and explain all visual demonstrations. You may also want to bring hard copies of your presentation to distribute to attendees. Typically two or three slides per page are effective for such purposes.

Audience questions: When answering questions from the audience it may be a good practice to repeat the question to ensure all delegates have heard clearly.

Important Speaker General Information:
• Please ensure that you check the Summit program on the Summit Website to confirm your presentation date and time. (This information will be available on the website 2 weeks prior to Summit.)

• Summit venue will provide audio/visual equipment, large screen, podium microphone, and sound system.

• If you are a candidate for presentation please check frequently this website for updated information.
